RY 2011-12 : Origin of Rotary Club of Bhubaneswar Kalinga

In an auspicious day of 15th August 2011, many common friends of different classifications gathered in Bhubaneswar Club and discussed about formation of a new Rotary Club in Bhubaneswar, where members of other existing Rotary Clubs were also present. Keeping in view the necessity of growth of Rotary Organization, all of them present arrived at a conclusion to start a new Rotary Club with the name and style of “Rotary Club of Bhubaneswar Kalinga”. Sri Ashok Mohapatra was unanimously selected to be the Charter President of the newly formed Club. Past President of RCB, Temple City Dr S K Tamotia was also present and was selected to be the Governor’s Special Representative for the Club.

The Club provisionally functioned in Panth Niwas of Orissa Tourism Development Corporation. Request for Charter for a new Club recommending 38 members was forwarded to South Asia Office of Rotary International. As per the provision, one existing Rotary Club is to sponsor a new Club and accordingly many Clubs of Bhubaneswar came forward to sponsor and finally names of two Clubs i.e. RCB Royal and RCB Temple City were forwarded along with request form. As per the requirement, only one Club is to sponsor a new Club and as RCB Royal had passed a resolution in their Board meeting to sponsor the Club, RI South Asia office allowed RCB Royal as sponsoring Club and accordingly RI President Kalyan Banerjee signed the Charter of Rotary Club of Bhubaneswar Kalinga on 24th October 2011.

In a glittering function, the Charter presentation ceremony was held in Hotel Hindustan International, Bhubaneswar on 22/01/2012. Former Lieutenant General (Dr) N K Parmar and Prof (Dr) K Subramaniam, the then Pro Vice-Chancellor of Bangalore Yoga University were Chief Guest and Guest of Honour respectively.
